Colonial Legacies: Addressing White Supremacy and Capitalism at the Intersection of Disability, Class & Culture

This 2-hour talk (including Q&A) weave’s together theory, lived experience and reflections on the ongoing impacts of colonialism on disabled and marginalised bodies existing within white supremacist culture. It aims to:

  • Pull apart threads of European colonial history, and weave together disability and class discourse (as two focused points) of interconnected legacies of colonialism.

  • Explore sickness and disability as an expression of inter- and trans-generational trauma.

  • Draw connections between the disabling effects of capitalism, grind culture and white supremacy as an extension of colonialism.

  • Reflect on how we continue to liberate ourselves through the practice of collective care and anti-capitalism.

  • To move beyond false linear and binary concepts of time, healing, power and care.

“When you proudly and boldly uphold grind culture and ignore your body, you become an agent of white supremacy. You align with it. Say no. Resist. Rest.”
