Confronting the Role of White Comfort in Therapy


This seminar invites therapists and allied professionals to interrogate their relationship with upholding white supremacy within their practice. It aims to support a greater understanding of the white comfort complex, racism, and its role in maintaining white supremacy within the therapy world.We will:

  • Identify white defence mechanisms that lead to harm

  • Provide definitions of the white comfort complex

  • Understand its role in maintaining white supremacy

  • Touch upon internalised racism and anti-Blackness

  • Contextualise colonial history and its ties to therapy

  • Offer starting points to abolish white body supremacy
