Confronting the Role of White Comfort in Therapy
This seminar invites therapists and allied professionals to interrogate their relationship with upholding white supremacy within their practice. It aims to support a greater understanding of the white comfort complex, racism, and its role in maintaining white supremacy within the therapy world.We will:
Identify white defence mechanisms that lead to harm
Provide definitions of the white comfort complex
Understand its role in maintaining white supremacy
Touch upon internalised racism and anti-Blackness
Contextualise colonial history and its ties to therapy
Offer starting points to abolish white body supremacy
